Ref No.: ERA-ARA-PD-ECD-150ONE (1) ASSISTANT RESEARCHER A' OR POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW POSITIONS AT THE ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE DEPARTMENTERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence ( ) of Cyprus University of Technology ( ) invites applications for one (1) position of Assistant Researcher A' and/or Post Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Environment and Climate of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. The position is open on a full-time (100%) employment basis. The successful candidate will conduct research under multiple Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence projects funded by the European Union, including the ATARI Twinning project. ATARI project based on four strategic scientific domains of (a) dust modelling and forecasting, (b) aerosol microphysics and characterization, (c) dust radiative effect and solar radiation and, (d) solar energy applications.ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in earth observation, space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has a 13-year experience in earth observations and geospatial analysis. ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to actively contribute to the European Research Area (ERA) priorities in Atmosphere and Climate, Resilient Societies and Big Earth Data Analytics, as well as to become the reference Earth Observation/Geoinformation Centre for research and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region.A core activity of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is to conduct high caliber, state-of-the-art research, both basic and applied. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities to the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated.Appropriate measures of success will be collaboratively determined based on the Centre's strategic growth plan and sustainability targets. These will be revised periodically by the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.The position offers excellent possibilities for professional development of highly motivated individuals in the framework of the “ATARI” Horizon-WIDER-2023-ACCESS-02 within which the ERATOSTHENES CoE, in cooperation with EU Advanced Partners [Barcelona Supercomputing Centre Centro Nacional de Supercomputacion (BSC-CNS), Generalized Retrieval of Atmosphere and Surface Properties (GRASP SAS), Association pour la Recherche et le development des Methodes Et Processus Industriels (ARMINES), Ecole Nationale Supérieure des MINE de Paris (ENSMP) and Physikalisch-Meteorologisches Observatorium Davos, World Radiation Center (PMODWRC)].Description of the Position
This position concerns researchers who hold a Masters degree for the position of Assistant Researcher A' and a Doctoral degree for the position of Post Doctoral Researcher, from a recognized University.Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be placed in the Department of Environment and Climate of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, and is expected to contribute towards shaping and advancing its research and innovation agenda by:
1. Conduct applied or fundamental research;
2. Participation in the preparation and submission of project deliverables;
3. Dissemination and communication of the project results through journal/conference publications, participation in conferences, information days and other relevant events;
4. Assisting in the definition of research goals and writing research proposals with the assistance of the Coordinator of the relevant Department;
5. Engaging with government and industry bodies and institutions to raise the profile of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence as a research-intensive institution;
6. Working towards fulfilling ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence mission goals;
7. Experience in data management of research projects and solutions for complex and large datasets transfer, storage, analysis, distribution, exploration, etc.;
8. Involvement in the transfer of knowledge and capacity building activities that will be offered by the advanced partners in the framework of ATARI project;
9. Experience in the design of data models, computational analysis;
10. Undertaking any other relevant duties deemed necessary.Qualifications
1. Master or PhD in a discipline of the natural sciences, physics, mathematics, computer engineering meteorology, atmospheric measurements, modelling of solar radiation or related scientific disciplines;
2. At least 2 years of experience in projects related to aerosol modelling;
3. Proven effective writing of project proposals and management of National, European Commission or European Space Agency funded projects;
4. Comprehensive project planning; identifying and managing risks in project implementation;
5. Effective collaborative and communication skills with stakeholders from both the research community and the industry;
6. Excellent knowledge of English both verbal and in writing.The appointment will be for a period of one year (12 months) with the prospect of renewal for another one year. All appointments are subject to completion of a probation period of six (6) months.The annual gross salary for the (full-time) position will range from €25468.08 to €29592.08 for Assistant Researcher A', and from €36732.10 to €52908.42 for Post Doctoral Researcher, depending on qualifications. It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary (the cost of the 13th salary is proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration).Review of applications will start on 1 March 2025 and will be repeated every month until the positions are filled but not beyond July 2025.
